Pop Warner Cheerleading with GCPW

INFORMATION
Garner Civitan Pop Warner offers cheer squads for athletes ages 5-13.  Athletes will be placed on squads based on age, with experienced cheerleaders more likely to be placed in the oldest division for which they are eligible.  Consideration is given to athletes who have siblings playing football as to team placement. THERE ARE NO TRYOUTS!  Each squad must have a minimum of 5 athletes.  We are a travel league, so there will be games in other locations, such as Raleigh, Cary, Durham, Wake Forest, etc.

EQUIPMENT

GCPW provides briefs (spanks), a white crop top (for under the uniform), and 2 cheer bows. Athletes will need to purchase their own solid white cheer shoes. Uniforms are provided by Garner Pop Warner and will need to be returned at the end of the season.

PRACTICES
Practices begin on August 1.    ALL PRACTICES ARE MANDATORY!

The first 2 weeks, there are 10 practices so that athletes can get their required conditioning hours completed. After the first two weeks, each coach will set up a practice schedule for their team.

Practices will be held at Thompson Road field, South Garner Park, or the Garner Civitan Building. One or two practices may be held at a local gym or school as we get closer to competition date.

COMPETITION
All teams will participate in the local cheer competition held in October.  All teams in the league are eligible to participate in the regional competition to be held in November, but GCPW has criteria to determine if our squads will participate.   Teams that qualify with a minimum score of 85 at local competition and place (1st-3rd) at regionals could move on to Nationals, to be held in December in Florida.  There are fundraising benchmarks that must also be met before the regional competition.  The final decision on whether or not a team advances to national competition is up to the GCPW Board.

COACHES AND VOLUNTEERS
Our coaches and volunteers complete required YCADA training each year. Most are CPR certified and have first aid training. All volunteers are background checked. We are always looking for volunteers!!! If you are interested in joining our program as a coach, assistant coach, team mom, or student trainer (age 16-18), please indicate that during the registration process.

REGISTRATION
Online registration is open from March 15 until July 31. You don’t want to wait until the deadline because any placement requests are considered in order of registration. For all early registrations, there is a payment plan that allows payments to be spread out until mid-July.  If payments are not completed, the athlete cannot participate and will be removed from the roster.
